Went and pulled codes yesterday, pulled a P2104 and P2111 in that order. P2104 essentially is forced idle due to pedal sensor failure and P2111 is throttle actuator system stuck open. Pretty sure cleaning the throttle plate cleared my issue. Thanks to all for the insights.

Question

I have a 2006 f150 lariat 2w 5.4L. I was driving to work this morning and my truck all the sudden went into ENGINE FAIL SAFE MODE. Limp mode...it stalled a few times in idle and says low oil pressure.. Only when it stalls.but stays running for the most part.I shut it off then turned it back on and a short time after like a min or so it continues. it feels like it's losing power an used up some gas even when I drove it home while in FAIL SAFE MODE Ik it could b a few different things... Would anyone know what the problem is or could be??? Thanks steve..

The low oil pressure message is likely because it wasn't on long enough, so that's not *necessarily* a symptom yet. All our trucks do that, even on a false start with no engine problems at all. Guessing you haven't pulled codes yet?

The last time mine went into fail safe mode was when the throttle body plug wasn't snapped in all the way. The truck would run for a few seconds and then turn itself off. Before that, it went into fail safe mode because I was doing some work and forgot to plug the MAF sensor back in (it still ran though).

Also, you should've started a new thread instead of reviving this thread from 2010.

I see that a lot of you say to clean the throttle plate. And that sounds like it's an common thing with the f150s... well as far as the "EFSM" goes.. Cleaning the plate is the only thing I haven't done yet. I to had a bunch of codes and I don't have them with me at the moment but I will post. I checked my "MAS" it's good my "I E " and "Crank & CAM sensor Also another problem the dealer told me the "SOLENOID" or check the connections to the SOLENOID

Which solenoid...? Your truck has so many solenoids... starter solenoid isn't the problem since your truck is starting, and VCT solenoids don't become active until the truck gets hot...

Post up some codes pulled from the incident and let us know so we can problem solve it for you. Hopefully it's something simple.

I appreciate the help fellas. ..P061B. P0102. P0605. P0446. P0010. These are the codes that came up. Ima pull the plugs today an hope for the best. My MAF sensor is good replaced that. And the cam position actuator bank 2. I just don't know what the bank 2 is. And code p0010 says low voltage on the VCT circuit. Failed VCT.

Wow.... talk about an erratic selection of codes. You either have a lot of problems or your computer is giving up the ghost.

I had the same issue with my 05 lariat. I simply cleaned the heck out of the throttle body and sensor and it has never happened since.
