Just what exactly is going on with the '5.4L tick'?
My buddy just bought an 06, and his extended warranty covered it and got it fixed... So I cruise down to Ford, and the guy at the service desk says it's 'normal', and to not worry about...???

 

Probally has to do with the cam ajustment. They have several sites on the internet with what is considered a normal sounds. You can find post on this site.

 

I have been reading the threads on 5.4 tap, but mine sounds like a collapsed lifter and a push rod knocking. Is this common on the 5.4? Are there other problems? On the old school cast iron beasts, you would just change the hyd lifter and call it good. this is an 05, 51K, and routine maint done every 4k miles on Mobil one.

 

I heard its the cam phazer and the injectors. I had the diesel tick for three years now and have been told by ford its the injectors. it did go away when i put lucas fuel injector cleaner and marvel mystery oil in with the oil in it but came back a week or two later. My brother in law just bought an 06 and it sounds nothing like my 04?
