5.4 will not start
hello. Im having some issues with my 06 xlt 5.4 not starting. Ive noticed lately that i can not get WOT without it feeling like its missing. Well the other night i drove home from work and it felt like it was missing when i was going up a few hills. So the next day i went to go to work and all it would do is crank over. fuel filter was changed at my last oil change 75 miles ago if that helps. and the battery is strong. Some feed back would be awesome
77,000 miles on it. It flashed the check engine light once when i was passing someone a few weeks back but it didnt stay on. i had it checked and the shop said there was no code coming up.
hmm. i wonder if one of your cylinders is (was) missing. that might explain your lack of power when passing.. sometimes it will store a misfire though so you might would have picked that up when you scanned it
I bet you have some bad fuel injectors. Its a known issue with the 5.4L. Ford has extended all 5.4L fuel inj to be covered under warrenty up to 100,000mi. Mine did the same thing and it had a locked open inj on cyl #5.
Does the tach move while cranking? (If not, CPS related?)
If you changed the fuel filter less than 80 miles ago, I would start there. Check the safety kill switch, as well as visibly inspect the fuel filter for leaking, disconnects, or odd crimps, etc.
They may have gone so long as to cut a corner to install the wrong one if you had a flex engine- some are inspired to 'make' it fit, instead of getting the right part.
If everything visually looks fine, turn the key to the on position 5-6 times, then have someone hold down the safety switch while cranking it. (it will probably run horribly for a few min)
edit: also check the fuel pump module for corrosion. I saw a good post on it somewhere, but can't recall where, exactly.
I would also d/c the battery with the parking lights on for a good 10min with the lights on to force a relearn. (You may want to make sure of no stored codes before losing them.)

Safety kill switch?
And no the tach does not move when I try to start it.
The fuel filter is the right one i change it everytime I change the oil (
habbit from owning a diesel also lol). Also I read on here before that theres a reset, something where u turn the key and press the gas pedal so many times? Maybe I could try that, anyways
