Think that it might be the cam phaser on A bank or the VCT since they mentioned the oil. From what I read on other threads on here is that if the VCT is not puting out oil pressure to the cam phasers it will retard the timing and cause it to run rough and if the timing is off it tells the computer to deliver more fuel or less fuel. also found out that 04 & 05 5.4s have a problem with the cam phasers they changed the to different style in 07 but no recalls go figure. I have tried numerous times today to talk to the tech working on my truck at ford and got nothing but to be put on hold.
If any else knows something about this please add to the conversation so that my self and others can figure this phantom out

So you have changed the plugs already at some point?

140k and I'll bet those gaps are 1/4"

Ok picked up my truck today and Ford didn't fix any thing because they don't know what's wrong or the cause of the problem. After picking it up and not paying them 1200.00$ to just look in the motor I drove about 40 miles and finally got the light it actually gave 2 codes this time lean bank a , and missfire on #2. so it's going back to another shop and Gettin the plugs change I won't know until next week if this will fix all the problems keep y'all posted

I had this problem with the idling and the misfire on #7 a few days ago.

I had the ford dealership change all the plugs (88 miles without a plug change) and change the coil on #7. No problems in the past few days.

Getting the plugs changed is a good idea regardless, but it might be the coil - from doing research, I've noticed that's a common problem with misfires.

Default mis fires

I found my mis buy MAKING the truck toss a code. I sat with the truck in gear, 1 or 2 so you don't smoke off the tires, hold the brakes and put the truck under load where the mis happens most, after a few seconds it will store the code even if there is NO check engine light. I found I had two coils out that way.. Had a HEAVY miss and at times it seemed even worse but not all the time. did this found the main issue, changed it, did it again and caused the second one to pop.
