Here it is. The truck stopped going last week, so I had to tow it to the dealer since I didnt know of any good mechanics in my area that I could trust. Yeah I know the whole "stealership" saying. Turns out my engine has no compression in 4 out of the 8 cylinders, and the cats are clogged, so they are putting in a new engine. Its costing me $6300 to replace the engine, and all the catalytic converters. They cannot tell me what exactly happened to my truck, and I am clueless. I thought maybe someone out there might be able to help. The truck is a 2006 FX4 Screw with the 5.4 and 87000 miles. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I bought the truck with 9000 miles on it about a year and half ago. I changed the oil every 3000 miles at first but I drive so much that it was getting ridiculous going for oil changes every 3 weeks. So i started using Royal Purple oil and did the oil changes every 8000-12000 miles, I would just change the filter at 6k. The only thing I noticed was on the highway if I punched the gas the truck would stutter. I spoke with a couple buddies and they all agreed that maybe I had some water in the tank so I used a water extractor liquid, and I did a few fuel ups with a fuel injector cleaner. Does any of this sound out of the ordinary?

My f150 is also a 06 with 81,000 miles and when I hit the gas sometimes there seems to be a slight hesitation I talked with a ford mech who told me that the fuel inject needed to be cleaned I have not done this yet but it cost about 150 bucks. But it really seems out the ordinary in your case to lose a motor with 80,000 something miles. and the 6,000 dollar price tag you can buy another motor for less than that or rebuild it cheaper than a dealer

By the time the dealer told me what it was going to cost I was already about 800 bucks in the hole in tests and towing fees, so I figured to let them do it, plus with the new engine I get a 100k mile warranty, thats the only good side to the whole situation.
