Default 5.4 Inconsistent bogging/misfire..no codes

Last week started having bad misfire issues. Same symptoms as when my plugs went bad 6 months ago. Threw a code after about 100 miles driving like that. I believe it was 171, not sure, but it was lean bank 1. Pulled the plugs on PS. Cyl 1,2 and 4 were fine. Cyl 3, the bridge was gone and a small piece I'd the porcelain and the entire electrode. Compression was good, 180. Changed the plug and it ran fine. Issue was fixed and no pinging. So, I'm pretty sure the garbage made its way out. Issues and code came back next day. Checked PS plugs again, OK. Checked PS coils, all sparking. Checked PS injectors, all spraying. These are all checked visually. Changed FF. Fixed issue.

Started happening again yesterday, but no code. Very intermittent. Hard acceleration, cruising around 80mph. Planning to check fuel pressure this weekend, once the kit arrives, to see if the fuel pump is failing.

Any other ideas? Am i going in the right direction? About 144k miles and has a super chip, which i can't remove until i get to the dealership to have it reflashed.

I would change all the plugs boots and springs.. check the condition of your fuel pump drive module located above your spare tire.

I would check the air filter tray "Do you have a seal around the bottom and 2 sides of the tray when it slides into the housing making a better seal..this will definately give you the bog down effect...there is a lot written about it on this forum the bottom and two sides of the tray should make a seal when pushing the tray in....I used door weatherstripping the spongy type and it worked great for me.

Default CAI= cold air intake system

But is it an oil type or what ? If so maybe clean maf and throttle body for oil contamination . The more info we have the more we can zero in on it . As far as my factory system is, it gets cold air from fender so I really don't see the point . An Oil catch can in pcv system would be more beneficial to get intake and throttle body cleaned . A good code reader system like torque pro/android phone/bluetooth reader cheap on amazon is a real asset . You can see fuel trims ,fuel pressure , o2 sensors etc .
You may have a vacuum leak ,I made my own smoke machine from you tube . Certainly check your fpdm on rear axle

Last night checkall overfour vacuum leaks and checked fuel pressure. All was good. So i loaded the parts cannon through plugs, boots (both only 6 months old and looked ok) and coils all the way around. Seems to be running a lot better today. But, it has done that before.
