Default 5.4 fuel range

got a weird question, today i was driving and new i had a low tank and the fuel range was around 50km to e, and the meter was showing just a tad above e, then the range said 0 km to e and the meter went to 1/4 tank, is there a reserve area on the tank that stores some fuel for extra km to make it to a gas station

Many folks here complain that the "miles to empty" is vague, meaning it appears to read differently between several trucks. Gas sloshing around in the gas tank when you get that low is going to be a large factor in the PCM/ECU attempting to determine how much fuel is left, and how many gallons to empty range you have.

Best to just not run the truck below 1/4 tank.

Occasionally, mine gets funky once it gets around 1/4 tank. I'll look down and it reads something like '102 miles to E', then a few miles down the road later, it reads '139 miles to E'. No change in mpg reading. Once, I filled it up, but the gauge read 1/4 tank. Over the next 3 days, the gauge slowly crept up to an accurate reading (at that point, about 3/4 tank). Weird.

Yeah don't like to run it lower than 1/4 but normally fuel up and fill it once it hits the low fuel light so it gets a good clean out of the old fuel so it doesn't sit in the tank for a period of time till it fully burns out

Yeah that's weird how it does that cause a asked a few people that have the next gen f150 (2009-2014) and there's doesn't act up doing that when it gets low mush have just been the way it was manufactured being older lol

How warm during the day, and cool at night does it get in your area? Warm days/cool nights create condensation in the tank, and this will ruin your gas quicker than "old fuel"!

If you have the XLT or higher cluster that compute the MPG the low fuel light always comes on at 50 miles to empty.

The 50 miles is from the average MPG and how much gas it thinks it has in the tank
