4x4HI Dashlight comes “ON” then “Off” (4x4 does engage)
I have a 2005 F150 FX4. When I put the truck into 4x4Hi, the dashlight “4x4Hi” will come on then turn off. If I put the vehicle into 4x4LOW, the vehicle will engage into 4x4Low, and the 4x4Low light will come on and stay on. I have confirmed that the vehicle does in fact engage into 4x4Hi and 4x4Low. The issue started about a year ago, but I haven’t had time to fix it until now, and the only issue is the light does not come on during 4x4Hi. The 4x4 worked this winter driving through 24” of snow, another wise I would have gotten stuck.
Sitting at idle, and switching to 4x4Hi, I can hear the front hubs engage…then when putting it in 4x4Low, I hear the clunk from the transfer case engaging into low gear.
I’ve read a lot about the IWE solenoids causing many problems with water getting into them, and the front hubs engaging and disengaging while driving. I have not had a problem with any noise or grinding coming from the front of the vehicle.
I guess what would cause my 4x4Hi light to not stay lite?
Where does the dash get the signal to turn on the 4x4Hi and 4x4Low on? 4wd control module?
