4x4 trying but not engaging
#12
Fixed (HopefullY)
The problem with my ended up being the front left pulse vacuum hub. The guy I took it to seems to think the dealership should have replaced that at the same time they replaced the right one but didn't want to scare me away with the price. Fortunately it is working as the roads in CO are starting to become fun.
So far everything has worked fine (I hope this doesn't jinx it). Anyways I think the vacuum system Ford uses to engage 4x4 is not the best.

Roadhog, On my '06 last winter the 4H & 4L light would work intermitantly, but 4wd worked fine. Last week had the same problem as you. I had it in 4H, stopped somewhere, and when I started up again no 4WD/No light. Took it in and they said the "shift motor" on the transfer case was stuck. They freed it, but said it might stick again. I told them to put in a new one. We're beginning to have winter storms and I don't want to be stuck somewhere. Common problem when going months w/o putting it in 4WD. Cost of part was $253 and labor $60. Part 8L3Z-7G360-A

hey, thanx for the part #, that might come in handy one of these days, I drove in the snow again today and it still works fine, I guess during the year I should engage it more often to keep it free.
