Default 4wd not engaging

Have an 07-5.4 with 95k miles. Just snowed here and 4wd worked one day and the next day it didn’t. I have 4x4 Manuel selector on the floor. I jacked both front tires off ground and rotated with truck off. Driver side the cv axel turns with wheel as it should. The passenger side free spins with a slight grinding noise. Almost like it’s real close to engaging but just doesn’t. I looked at the cv axel as I was turning and I could see it slightly move then just give out. Would only move maybe 1/8” like it’s trying to turn but can’t and I could feel it grab just slightly then give out. Does that mean I just need new hub actuator on that side?

Just a guess, you may have frozen water in the vacuum tubing going to the IWE.

Not a bad thought. It is super cold here. I dont think its that though I feel like it would always be in 4wd at that point.

Guess it's time to take it apart and see if the iwe splines are stripped out.
