Default 4 wheel drive problems

so this is the first time ive had any problems with my 4 wheel drive (shift on fly) 04 lariat, my front end makes a loud "clunk" when engaging into 4 wheel, and the main problem is it keeps disengaging 4 wheel by itself, yesterday i was driving in town came to a stop sign in 4 wheel, went to take off and she kicked out of 4 wheel on me again, it did this 3 times last week also, which is when my loud clunk developed in the front end. its starting to bother me that it keeps randomly kicking out of 4 wheel drive, any ideas on what it could be? PS: my abs light and parking brake light have been randomly coming on and making my brakes go into abs mode when on dry pavement, if this has anything to do with the 4 wheel i doubt it but figured it may help someone.. im assuming thats just snow/ice on the sensors though.. thanks again.

Probably as Tech Rep said, I had the loud clink after replacing mine though and lost 4x4 when i needed it. You may want to check your actuators, replacing mine this weekend along with ball joints and hubs.

I dont think the IWE selenoid would cause that. Try just unplugging the vacuum lines going to the selenoid, cap the line that has the manifold vacuum so you dont get any codes and try using the four wheel and see if it still happens. If it does its not the selenoid. By unplugging the seenoid, all your doing is causing the hubs to stay locked.the switch inside will activate the transfer case motor and actualy put you in four wheel.
