4.6L Won’t start - Sometimes!
Check your fpdm module on rear axle. High failure item .I would also try lock lube on ignition .The key also gives the fuel system power to bring on fuel pressure.Read sticky on fpdm . Corrosion is the problem then water intrusion .
Torque pro app $5 /cheap blue tooth reader /android phone not even activated .This is one of the very best scan tools .This will allow you to read fuel pressure on rail and many other things .

Above the spare tire, there is the FPDM (Fuel Pump Driver Module). It sits directly on a frame cross member, and its aluminum body touches that steel. Over time galvanic corrosion occurs, which turns that aluminum body to dust, which then causes many odd malfunctions in the rest of the truck. The updated version has rubber stand-offs that keep that aluminum body away from the steel cross member.

Ok. I located the Fuel Pump Driver Module above the spare tire, and it was NOT bolted to the frame! It was just hanging from the electrical line - but electrically attached. So I bolted it back in place and the engine started! However, you tube university told me that the problem with the FPDM would be corrosion, not failure to ground to frame. So I unbolted the module from the frame, and the engine started. Clearly grounding was not the issue. There is very little corrosion on the module and certainly no penetrations. The error code is P0191 ‘fuel rail pressure sensor range/performance’. When I checked online I found a video from 2014 where somebody got this error code, and replaced the module believing that was the problem. There was no follow up video confirming that the problem was solved. The module is a little over $100. If that is the problem then I will buy and install the part, but I don’t know how to be sure that this will be it. You tube university suggested that there could be other units, or wires between units, that could be the problem. I don’t want to spend the money just to find myself stuck on the side of the road because I had missed the real issue.
I really appreciate the responses I have received and look forward to further input.
