Default 4.6 upgrades? ???

Hey all. I have a 05 with the 4.6 in her. Has 207000 on her now. Never a lick of trouble. Prolly the best truck I have ever owned. The wife gets about 13 mpg out her stock. Question is. If putting a few upgrades on the truck I cqn squeeze anymore from her. Thoughts and opinions are appreciated. I thinking maybe an air intake and a programmer? If so which ones are best? I'm kinda clueless with the f150 upgrades as I normally drive diesels around. Thanks

If your not going to do more than basic bolt ons the edge is a good tunner. And a lot of guys like the Airaid intakes.

If she's getting 13 out of a 4.6 she's doing something wrong. Because I'm 17 and run the heck outta mine with mud tires an still get 13-14.

As far as bolt-on additions the best gains are going to be from a programmer hands down. The CAI will help but will get you nowhere near the gains the programmer would get you. Thats why most people that have the tuner, have a CAI and exhaust to run with it

TBH, you won't see MPG gains by modding your truck. Best advice is stay up on maintenance and drive it.

Nope. If you want to mod for MPG, trade it in and get a car.

Truer words were never spoken!

Driving habits can help some though. My wife gets 7-15 mpg in my truck (4.6 4x4). I get 12-19 mpg. Who is the "lead-foot"?

a tuner will get you marginal improvements but is it worth the $$. a standard tuner is roughly $399 and figuring .5 mpg gain with todays fuel prices it would take 35k-50k miles to make up that initial cost.

However if you tow or haul regualrly a tuner can be a huge difference, say you get 8 mpg towing a trailer on the hwy, a tuner can make it 10 or 11. I have seen it and done it. Hell with my old diesel I gained 4mpg towing it was crazy.

If your truck is paid off get a $500 beater just a little more than a tuner and it can double your milage.
