By the time the 4.6 3 valve came around, they didn't have near as many issues as the 5.4 had. They were already installing upgraded parts.
Anyways, cheers.
They still have the cam phaser and chain tensioner issues. There is a video on YouTube with a Mustang 3V rattling so loud you'd swear it had a broken rod.

Anyways, take it for what it is. It's not like either she or I plan on racing. It was just a last minute thing on a back road. I agree that it doesn't serve much validity, however; for me I'm not too impressed with the 3 valve 5.4. I'd take my little ole 4.6 any day. It's been a awesome part of my truck.
I wasn't basing my dislike for the 5.4 on this drag race, if it can even be called that. However, between changing broken plug, and seeing her bill for changing the timing chains, and VCT solenoids, I'd take my 4.6 over the problematic 5.4.
As far as the weight goes I was simply saying that curb weight for the trucks, isn't that different.
Gearing can make a difference to. The 5.4 (especially the 3V) will really shine when towing heavy. That's where the 4.6 gets out classed as a truck engine. Nothing wrong with the 4.6, but the extra torque of the 5.4 makes more sense for a truck.

Not saying they are all perfect. However the 4.6 3 valve didn't have as many issues as the 5.4 3 valve.

I agree as far as heavy towing goes. The 4.6 isn't as good. But that comparing a 281 cu.in. engine to a 330 cu in engine. I have pulled 6500 with my truck with no issues. It stays in the high rpms to get going, but after it does so it isn't so bad.
Just overall I'd still rather have the 4.6

The only "issue" the two don't share is plugs breaking. Follow the YouTube vids to impact them out on a warm engine and then apply nickel anti seize on the new ones and it will never be a problem again. Other than that both 3V motors share their problems.

Is this a fact or your opinion? I've never seen the stats showing the 5.4 3V to have more problems than the 4.6 3V. They use the exact same parts. VCT solenoid, timing chain tensioners, heads, head gaskets, the list goes on. They are basically the same motor with the exception of the stroke.

In fact the repair guide lines and parts are the same and list both engines as having the problem.

Your truck has the revised heads so you should have no spark plug issues. Should only take about an hour. Thats what it takes me and I vaccum out the area where the coils are after removing the coils but never before removing the spark plugs. I do this just to make sure no debris fall in the cylinder. I also have to gap my plugs. But I have had a lot of practice seeing as how my plugs are shot anywhere from 10-15k miles

Congrats on the 100k.

Virtually all engines these days are COP.
