Default 4.2 Tune-up

Any recommendations as to what plugs and wires to use, and anything else I should change while I'm in there.

Torque specs?

It looks like a real pain just to change the plugs on this motor.

A pain? I changed the 6 plugs on my 2005 4.2 in less than an hour. You can actually see and touch the plugs on these engines! A rare deal these days. Ask the 5.4 guys about plugs.....then go out into the street and sing and dance because you own a 4.2!

A piece of cake. And to answer your question, Motorcraft plug wires can be bought here:

http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/rafr...431298k1949672

I ordered from them and they shipped to me within two days!

As to plugs, opinions will flood in. A decent set, such as Champion will work just fine in the 4.2's.

I really like this engine.

MOTOCRAFT...wouldnt waist your time on any other plug.... they are very easy to change... hardest thing to do is get the damn clips unclipped that hold the wires together

easy to change?

I'm 5'10, I can't even reach in to touch them. This is my first truck. With the exception of a fiero, all my cars plugs have been right on top.

You can't blame the height of a truck for this!

I'd suggest a small step ladder.
