2v or 3v...?
Hi all,
Was looking at doing spark plug change out.
See there is an issue with breakage with certain engines. So thought I would ask if my truck may have that issue.
2005 f 150 supercab/short bed. Bought 18 months ago w/84k miles, now at 114k. No issues, just preventative maint.
engine order code 99w, 4.6L/281.
Not sure if its 2v or 3v or even how to tell the difference.
Any advice or heads up info would be appreciated.
Thanks, Bob

Easiest way is to look in the front of both valve covers and see if you have a VCT solenoid with a plug and wires going to it. Solenoid = 3v. Though with the 4.6 I highly doubt you have a 3v.

3v 4.6 wasn’t introduced until 2009. You have a 2v. 5.4 is the only engine in this generation with spark plug breakage issues.
