My 2008 F150 4.6l stx 4wd starting acting up today. When I went to drive away after being stopped at a red light it felt as if the transmission shifted harder than usual, then I noticed a grinding sound as if it's metal on metal. I continued driving to find a place to stop to look at it but it began to drive normal at that point. After stopping and not finding anything obvious right off I went to start up and try to drive again but now my O/D light is flashing and Trans Fault came on. The noise continued and now the truck is sluggish at first. Any thoughts on what may be the problem?
The codes I've got are P0712, P0748, P0962 and P1783. Now from that I would assume that the pressure solenoid has went bad then caused the trans to overheat for the short period of time when everything happened causing those codes. My next question is how big is too big when it comes to metal shavings in the pan? I was planning on replacing the fluids, filter and the pressure control solenoid to see if that would solve my problem only if there wasn't any large shavings that would cause concern. Any thoughts???
Largest pieces I found.
