2006 Key Question
Bought this used. Only had one set of keys (one door, one ignition).
I would like to get a spare set, but the dealer told me if I had TWO ignition keys, it is pretty easy, but since I only have ONE ignition key, it would be about $150 to make me a spare set.
Can anyone confirm this before I blow $150 for a set of spare keys? I see I can buy blanks on EBay for much less, but again, am told they work if you have more than one ignition key (which I don't).
Thank you!

You can buy blanks on ebay, but a dealer or locksmith must program them to the PCM. The local dealer near me wanted $75 for just the program! Bought a flip key on ebay (~$20) and had a local locksmith program it for me ($35). Much better deal than the dealer and well worth it. Talking to the locksmith, if you loose both of your keys then it is a massive headache to get new ones. Go get a spare made!
x2, if you don't have two keys (I believe it's stated in the owners manual as well), you have to program the keys through the PCM. I always mention to people though that if you have a remote start, the ones that emulate a key (not a cloned key though) can technically be used to program a "third" key (as the remote starter bypass counts as a key). Some remote start installs, people bought the cheaper DEI kit or similar and have hidden a key under the dash in the box (usually, uncut). So if you have a remote starter it could be worth checking that. All depends how much time you want to invest vs. the cost to have one cut/programmed.
Also, if you do have a remote starter, remember to ensure that it stays programmed or the truck won't start if they clear the existing keys from the computer.
