2006 Fuel Filter
So i went to the dealer today and had my 20k service. Multi-point inspection, Oil and filter change and so on. When i bought the truck they told me my first service would be free, so that was cool. One thing though, they said i need to replace my Fuel Filter. They asked me if i wanted them to do it, or if i wanted to do it myself. Well i told them i wanted to do it myself thinking i could save money. The thing is, i've never done this before but figured i should learn. Is replacing the Fuel Filter an easy thing to do? Or should i just bring it back and have them do it, they were gonna charge me $50.
Thanks for the help.
Thanks for the help.
$50 isn't a bad price for parts and labor. If you haven't messed with the new style clips before, they can be tricky. And the lines themselves are easy to kink or break if you're not careful. You also need a special tool for the forward line.
Changing the fuel filter is not hard to do, just as long as you have the special plastic "do-hicky" thinga-mabob pieces that disconnect the fuel filter from the fuel lines. Go to any automotive parts store and explain you want to replace a fuel filter yourself. Tell them you need the special plastic tool pieces; they'll know what you mean! It will be a kit with several halfmoon looking plastic things. They basically unlock the fuel line from the filter; you push in where the fitting meets the filter.
Also have a pan (such as an oil drain pan) handy, as some residual fuel in the fuel line will leak out. Once the fuel lines have been unsnapped from the filter using the special plastic tool deals, the filter mearly snaps back into the fuel lines.
Sorry for my explaination for the half moon looking plastic pieces. Don't know what the "official" word(s) for them are, but without, the filter will not come off of the fuel lines. They are cheap to buy though; much cheaper than 50 bucks for sure, including the fuel filter itself.
