What kind of MPG are you guys getting with your 5.4? Mine is a 2006 Lariat w/ 128k miles and I have owned the truck for a few weeks now. If I put 25 gallons in it, I notice that I am only at about 120 miles or so and I am already at half tank. Then I found it had a MPG reader on the dash and sure enough my average is like 10.2 MPG. That is awful. It has the stock-sized wheels and tires, no lift or anything. What could be causing such horrible MPG?

My 04 only ever got 12.5-13.5 so you're not terribly bad.
A few things off the top of my head, might be time for a tune-up. Also, the calipers like to freeze up. Maybe one is dragging.
E-brake dragging, clean MAF, clean throttle body.

Is it mostly highway or city driving? I pretty consistently get 10-11 mph city driving. Tune up was done about 10k miles ago (spark plugs, COPs, throttle body cleaning, new air/fuel filter, timing job). I can squeak out 15 on the highway if I'm lucky. Mine's an 05 5.4 with 106k miles.

07 King Ranch 5.4 and I get close to 10-11 city driving and about 13-14 highway. I'm guessing your doing city driving?

I did recently clean the MAF, and the truck has Accel COPs, but I am not sure what plugs it has, or when they were changed. I still need to clean throttle body. Air filter is clean and new looking

A tune up or tune would be your best bet to gain MPGs but it's also a 12 year old, heavy, boxy pickup with a 5.4l engine. They were never really good on MPGs.

Don't forget about Mr. Fuel Filter

Exact same situation here, 06 F150 Lariat getting 10mpg or less when I got it. Get a diff fluid change to the good stuff, 75w140 for the rear and 75w90 for the front. My rear was pretty chunky and I'm up 1-2 mpg already. Definitely do the plugs especially if you don't know what you have in there, and maybe replace the COPs with Motorcraft. I'm at 12.8mpg with city and highway mixed driving on 33" tires, diff fluid change, fuel filter change, sparks and COPs replaced, drop pan trans fluid change, full synth oil at 5w30, and new tires.
