My opinion (repeat opinion) is since it is a interference engine, you have major issues. I wouldnt do anything but replace it.

The connecting rod in the wet cylinder is probably bent, but I don't see what being an interference engine has to do with it. That becomes an issue in the case of a broken or jumped timing chain. I agree with replacing (or completely overhauling) the engine. It's 11 years old and just had a really bad failure.

I just figured if a rod is bent, some valves are as well. Maybe not, but if it were my truck and the body and drivetrain are in great shape, new motor it gets.

I know the 4.2 v6 engines have a really bad problem with the intake manifold gasket failing and leaking coolant into the pistons. It almost always bents a rod when it hydrolocks.
I dont really see how bending a rod would result in bent valves, at least immediately. When the rod eventually fails, then the piston will in all likely hood smash into some valves. But if anything, a bent rod should be slightly shorter than normal one

Only the 97-early 98s had that problem. The gasket was modified back in 98 and it hasn't had that probalem since.

It's a very reliable engine. Not the most powerful, but it'll go for a long time if taken care of.

@2008_XL My fiances 2006 with a 4.2 is currently dealing with that problem lol. Granted it was a construction truck and has nearly 300k miles on it, but it still happened the same way

That's not the same problem. That could happen to any engine at 300k that's been run into the ground. That's a lot of miles.

If you're finding info on the internet about the 4.2 having a faulty intake gasket and hydolock issues, that's for 97-early 98 only. They're not prone to failure after that. But again, at 300k, anything can fail.
