I can't wait to feel my baby again on the freeway running like new.
700 is an absolute ripoff for just a plug change. Even ford is way cheaper. I paid 536 at ford and I got ripped off myself. Most ford dealerships will do it for around 400-450. what is this soaking nonsense? ive never heard of that at all? to get them to come out you have to run the truck to 5 mins or so to get the head warm and let the threads expand. out pops the plug. this is per my ford dealer. the book says to do it cold but if you run the truck for 5 mins the plugs come right out. this is the way all of my ford dealers do it.....

The price I was quoted was for replacing all 8 plugs (including the additional time to use the tool to remove the lower half of the plugs if they break). The price also includes replacing all boots, and replacing one coil (coil alone is 100 bucks), The plugs he is using are platinum ford motorcraft parts (these are 20 bucks each). Boots and coil are all ford motorcraft parts. He has done these types of replacements before so I think I am going with him. I am getting it done this week, so I'll be sure to report back...

Guys / Girls... I wanted to report back on my issue with my 2005 F-150... I thought I had a tranny issue due to some hard knocking during shifting in the passing gears... Well I had a full service done (I am at 100k miles) I had plugs, boots, fuel filter, differental fluid, and transmission fluid and filter changed and also had the injectors cleaned. I wanted to let everyone know that since I picked up my truck, she runs like the day I bought her (I bought her new in 2005). I can tell the difference in smooth acceleration, smooth shifting, no sputtering, etc. I can even feel the increase in power off the line.

All parts were OEM (plugs were OEM Motorcraft Platnum Plugs $20 ea), and fluids are full synthetic Kendal.

I def. recommend everyone keep up your maintenance on your truck.

My truck has 100k miles on it, and I have not changed the plugs or coils. yes, I know... I can hear my dad yelling at me that I should have had them changed every 50k or 40k.

I have not heard of this 5.4 misfire, (maybe that is why I have had ENGINE FAIL SAFE MODE) come on my warning center twice within the last year and half (thoughts?)

Either way, I will have the plugs and coils changed out this week and I will report back.

Thanks
The Engine Fail Safe Mode is most likely your throttle body going. Same thing happened to me around 80K miles in my 2006 F150 Lariat

Hello everyone, I'm new to this forum so I hope you all will bear with me. I had a friend who had a 2005 5 f150 stx 4.6l 4wd. He bought it and it had a 6 inch lift kit and 35 inch tires. Well upon driving it home the truck started to run rough and spit. So he got it home changed some plugs and coils and started driving again. This time it started running real rough and wouldn't drive . He pulled in to gas station and parked and shut off. When started it would not go in drive only reverse. So he had it towed to my house where I hooked up scanner and got p0720 and p0722 and p2106 I believe which was limp mode. So I changed output speed sensor to tranny and output sensor to transfer case . I then changed filter and fluid. I got the truck to drive around again but still ran rough. After a while it barely drive forward. Reverse worked fine. Got back to my house and put scanner on it and got the p0720 and p2106 codes back. Changed output speed sensor again and fluid and filter to no avail. It drives in reverse fine but put in drive it engages sort of like it wants to go but 3000 rpms to barely move and goes into trans fault and limp mode again. Was just wondering if I missed something or does tranny need to be replaced. Oh and the housing on the connector going into output speed sensor broke a little bit when I first tried unplugging it. Dont know if that would cause a real problem as it still locks on to sensor. Any advise would sure be helpful. Thank you.

Usually, when the truck goes into limp home mode, its because the throttle body (either the TPS or throttle motor) has gone bad (p2106). But then again, p0720/p0722 are both output speed sensor malfunction codes. The p2106 code mentions that transmission problems will also cause limp home mode.

You might want to also check wiring continuity.

Thank you for the info. I have read these previously and did check all that pertains. The abs light and trac light is on but I dont believe this would cause my truck not to go. Oh ya, I forgot to mention that I bought the truck thinking the worst that could happen would be replace tranny. But I dont believe it's necessary, because the codes were on before and with a little work they went away and truck drove again . For a while anyways. But now it sits there you put in drive and it takes everything it's got to move forward but then goes into trans fault and limp mode.
