Default 2005 5.4 Replacement Engine

My engine has had a tick that I've chased forever. Written quite a few threads on it and fixed everything it could be. I'm figuring now it's a wrist pin. I have the opportunity to purchase a stripped down 5.4 3V for cheap out of another truck. It's complete and was taken apart to inspect. I would like to keep it in the garage and rebuild it over the next year or so in preparation to drop it in the '05.

What serial numbers or visual indicators am I looking for to make sure it will work? I don't want to accidentally get something from the wrong year that won't bolt up or work with the ECU.

Thanks.

Anything at all? Will all 5.4 3V work as long as you have the original engine for any missing sensors?

If it we me I'd try to stick to 05-07 if you want to avoid the expensive 04 camshafts and you don't want to have any confusion down the road as to what spark plugs go in it that you would get with 08+ heads. As far as I know the rest of it is pretty much the same.
the only identifying data I know of is the engine build sticker that's on the lh valve cover.. it tells you the build date and assembly plant

Are the short blocks the same? Could I use older heads on newer block?
