its one of those things, where if you do research on vehicles, you're ALMOST always going to hear the bad things about a vehicle. I try to take it each SPECIFIC vehicle at a time. For every 10000 they build their might be a problem w/ one specifically. Id take it for a test drive and get all the details on that truck then make your decision from there.

Id look for a couple of things specifically: cam phasers and because it has 100k on it MAKE THEM CHANGE THE PLUGS BEFORE YOU BUY IT IF THEY HAVENT BEEN CHANGED ALREADY!

I bought my '04 new and it's got 91k on it now. The most problems I've had was with the window regulator's. 3 out of 4 broke and 2 rear slider motor's went out. I'm on the original plug's and no problems with the cam phaser's so far. These truck's are prone to brake problem's when running oversize tires. They can eat up pad's and rotor's. Overall it's been a good vehicle.

Thanks! I am really looking forward to Monday! Does your 04 have the AUX input for the stereo?

I think they added the aux input on the 07 and up. You can add your own if you want.

Im at 90K miles now on my 2004 FX4. I've had all 4 window regs fail at around 80k. No cam phaser issues with mine so far, spark plugs will be getting changed out. Replaced IWE solenoid for 4x4(25 dollar part) as a preventative measure with the new updated replacement from ford. New Battery.
Been a joy to drive and own.

Out of curiosity, what kind of deal you gettin? supercrew?

100k is nothing on these trucks. with any truck model, you are gonna have some areas that suck. ford is notorious for the plug issue(5.4's 04-to early 08) , the 4x4 system is kinda hit and miss (my father in law's 04, needed a new IWE solenoid and both front hubs as well as actuators) but overall i wouldn't bat an eye at buying a 04 with 100k on the ticker.

Check the Carfax if you can. Mine showed all the oil changes from the day the previous owner bought the truck new. Make sure the plugs have been changed. 4x4 issue is cheap and quick to fix. Anytime you get a bunch of people together on a site like this, where we come to with our truck problems, you're going to hear the bad. Overall they are good trucks. I can't wait to have a reason to buy another one.

Thanks guys for all the help... I am getting the truck for 13k. Its got almost brand new tires as well. I have yet to see it in person but from the pictures Ive seen it looks imaculate. I am super excited to go pick it up! Ive done a lot of reading on the trucks and still cant come to a conclusion... Can a faulty cam phaser(s) damage the engine? Some people say no and some say yes... ???
