Hey all, my 2004 F150 new body 4.6L with 145K lost overdrive a few days ago. It will try to shift out of 3rd but will act like its in neutral. I took it to the dealer and they said my O/D snap ring broke, so I bought one and changed it out today, filled it up with new fluid, and took it out, but its still doing it. Before I take it to get codes pulled, does anyone know what else it could be since the snap rings been replaced? Thanks!

 

It's most likely your overdrive band that is worn out. Mine went out last year and Ford tried to tell me I needed a new transmission so I took it to a transmission specialist in town and he knew exactly what it was when I told him what happened. Cost me about $800 out the door for him to change it.

 

Thanks edwards1687. If this is the case, does anyone know how to do it themselves? I'd rather not shell out $800+ if I dont have to. Thanks!
