Angry engine noise 2004 ford f150

I have a 2004 f150 with 5.4 engine. This engine has been making a clicking noise for about 60k miles it sounds like a flat lifter would make on a older model. I had the engine overhauled at 144k miles but the noise is still there. When the engine is cold the sound is not there. My brother in law has an identical model and his is begining to make the same noise. Can anyone help?

ljscott: I have the 5.4L as well with a K&N CAI and with my intake, the MAF slide into the tube between the filter and the TB. I'm sure yours is not much different.

Have you returned your tune to stock? Not sure if it is what is happening to you, but several tuners aren't setup for CAI's and cause a lean condition.

I doubt it.

Have you checked your plugs since it started acting up again?

I would tend to rule out the maf because changing the plugs temporarily fixed it. How did the used plugs look when they were pulled?
