2004 5.4 Low power
Hello everyone.
I purchased my girlfriend a 2004 5.4 FX4 Crew. Has 136k miles, but is in excellent shape. The previous owner told me that all oils had been changed including tranny and filter. Also said sparkplugs were replaced at 100k miles. But had NO reciepts to prove any of it. With that said, It idles smooth, doesnt stutter, just seems low on power.
It has the ticking sound which I will be replacing the Cam Phasers, solenoids, timing chain...ect.
Problem is, I was pulling my trailer with the 4 wheeler on it. Seemed as though it had no guts. It moves from a stop fine, but as I continue to give it more throttle...nothing! I have to get it to the floor before it downshifts, and still seems very slow to rev.
I had a 2008 F150 5.4 at one time, and it would drag a 4 wheeler and trailer like it wasnt there.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Could be a result of improper timing from cam phasers or bad coil on plugs. Very common issues.
But do little things like clean the maf and replace the pcv. Check your airfilter too could replace with a good drop in unit like afe. Change the oil yourself you can never trust a previous owner and run something good through it. Use some fuel injector cleaner and run a good brand of gas. Change the fuel filter too. Not too expensive to do and can fix a lot of odd issues.

I will clean and check the MAP sensor, and replace the fuel filter.
What about Cat convertors? There issue with them?

Thanks everyone. I will check out these issues when I get home from my hitch. Will keep you updated on what fixes it. Nothing I hate more is when someone starts a thread with an issue and never responds as to what fixed the problem. It helps no one else.

This thread should continue cause I'm having a power issue as well. I'm think phasers or solenoids cause I have the tick. My edge tuner helps with power but it definately doesn't have the power it did at 60k miles as it does at 130k. Let us know if anything works!

Let us know I'm having similar problem and I have 2004 5.4 only sitting at 75k but very sluggish lately always seems I am giving more gas then it used to take to make it go and when I let off the gas it's like an immediate drop in power. It didn't used to b like that. No Good.!

Update
I changed the Timing chains, Cam phasers, Chain tensioners...added a superchips on the tow tune. Much better power, and no ticking. Runs smooth as silk!
