I recently got a 2004 f150 with the 5.4 3v in it with 290k on it. I was told the truck needed sparkplugs as the truck ran a little rough. I changed the sparkplugs and after that the truck seemed to run worse and i noticed a soft ticking under acceleration from the the left side of the engine. I am aware of the cam phaser problem, but the truck doesn't seem to have that noise too bad. I just replaced the VCT solenoids and that did nothing. The timing chains seem tight from what I could tell. I still get the P0012 cam shaft timing code and the truck has a lack of power and that ticking under acceleration. Any Ideas? Could it be the Cam Phasers? thanks!
