Default 2004 5.4 3v Engine Help!

Hello,

I have an '04 F150 2wd Screw with the 3v 5.4 - otherwise known as the "POS" model. It has 135,000 miles on it and I want to keep it rolling for another 115,000.

After letting dealers and mechanics try to fix the typical motor issues, I've started to deal with the issues myself.

Here is a list of the "to do" list based on what I've read on these boards. Please let me know if I'm missing anything.

1. MAF/Throttle Body cleaning
2. Fuel Filter Change
3. Fuel Pump Driver Control Module
4. Plugs
5. Accel COPs
6. Air Filter
7. Oil Change (debating whether to go with 5w30)
8. Seafoam the gas

What am I missing?

Right now, my primary concern are the typical engine issues. I am acquiring the necessary tools - Lisle, OBDII Reader, etc.

Thanks!

Seafoam the engine through the brake booster vacuum line. There are a lot of youtube videos to guide you through it.

Along with your air filter I'd take a look at the foam strip around the housing to make sure its not deteriorated.

I wouldn't do coils just yet. if you're having problems with them replace piece-meal. I feel the money is better spent on new boots.

And if it hasn't been done yet, do your coolant.

DO go with 5w30 if you want your truck to last and not sound like a diesel!

Pick a good synthetic in a 0/30 or 0/40 grade. Run quality filters Like MC, Bosch or Wix and it will go a long way. I have had good luck with pulling the plugs hot....haven't broke one yet.

As far as the seafoam goes....I think its hog wash. Dont get me wrong I have used it too but the stuff is not anything special its almost the same as b12 which is just carb cleaner. I have had better luck with gumout products, techron concentrate and redline when it comes to cleaning the fuel system and getting rid of carbon. They have something called PEA which is very good at carbon removal (which is why we need it). Redline is my fav but its kinda expensive so I usually add two bottles of techron to a tank when I change the oil.

I also like marvel mystery oil added to the gas. Dont know how well it cleans, but in a desperate attempt to get mpg when I was doing 100 mile daily commutes, I picked up two mpg hwy by adding a pint to a tank. It actually saved me a few bucks when I was making that drive everyday. Now I just do the cleaners though.

definitely change the fuel and air filter. As for plugs, stick with Motorcraft.

Also I've read mixed reviews about Accel COP's.
