Default 2004 4.6 Engine Types

The 2004 4.6 has two different engines:

4.6L (VIN W, 8th digit), New Style, Romeo (6 flywheel to crank bolts) ID 4S842AA, 5S842AA, 6S842AA & 6S842AB
4.6L (VIN W, 8th digit), New Style, Windsor (8 flywheel to crank bolts) (ID 4S910AA)

Are these engines interchangeable.

Thank you,

Jason

It is to my understanding, one is mustang and one is truck. I'm assuming the truck would be the Windsor, since every older truck used the Windsor, but once again I'm not 100% similar to the older trucks 302. Some were in mustangs and some were in f150's. There are differences which adjust torque and so forth to make the engine more truck friendly. For instance in 4 wheel drive, transfer case, gearing. But some things are the same engine wise. If your doing a swap, I'd definitely make sure your completely compatible. If your just changing out some
Parts, most I'm sure would work as long as your not compromising the truck aspect of the engine. For what it's worth.

Ford put both engines in the f-150s.

Here's a quick article on the differences:

Being that they put both engines concurrently into the F-series, I would have to assume there wouldn't be any major installation issues in swapping them.
