Hey guys I just replace my 4r75w on my 04 by a 4r70e cause it was free and thought it would be no problem ...so everything is installed but there is a failsafe mode poping up in the dash and it won't shift in 2nd gear ...there is a sensor less on this tranny I'm not sure which one I believe it's the oss.Maybe I have to swap wiring all the way to the pcm ...I would really appreciate if you could help me on this one thanks guys

hello I have a 2004 f150 New Style with a 4.6 Romeo the transmission is a 4r70e I would like to mod the motor out a bit for a stronger engine I would also like to upgrade to the 4r75e now the way I understand it that transmission was not available for the 4.6 at the time my truck was built can i pull a used one or buy a reman from one that came out of a 4.6 f150 or even an e150 I found there transmissions to be cheaper used if I buy a used one I will just rebuild it no big problem there and what my question is if it does in fact bolt up correctly will I need to get someone to run a tune on it for to operate correctly?

Just stick with what works for sure-as in another ‘04 version or rebuild yours. If you’re really modding, you’d really need to beef the trans up anyway, and a 4R75 in stock form isn’t helping you.

I found this after a bunch of searching using p0715, p0717 in the search and coming up blank. As several people noted the 4r75 has a TSS sensor and output sensor where the 4r70 does not. Like an earlier poster I have swapped a early 04 75e into my 04 F150 5.4 3V. The trans I put in came from a Expedition with 5.4 2v. It did not have a sensor in the front port but was capped off with a white plastic cap. I pulled the cap and put the truck sensor in and now get the above codes. On a scan tool I get a rpm of zero in 1st or reverse and see the TSS seed once it shifts to second. So it kicks the code because it can't see the sensor in first. What gives I am stumped. Does the trans with the white plug not have the proper shaft? I thought all of the trans that have the port haft the proper input shaft. Does anyone have any ideas?

pretty late, but had the same issue. probably the wrong sun shell. 2003 down uses magnetic shell. 2004 + is semi metallic. If a magnetic sticks hard in the sensor hole its the wrong shell.
