Default 200 amp install

I put a 200 amp alternator on my 2008 F150 Harley Edition with the 5.4 in it. I installed a 4 gage cable to the battery with a 150 amp breaker to eliminate the fuse. It worked good but I could not keep the alternator gauge to read. How do I fix that problem? I thought about putting a new harness on ant to run the battery cables in parallel. Or is there a way to jumper out to the amp meter to make everything work?
Also, this last Saturday, my starter stopped working, could that be a problem because of the higher amps or that the amp meter isn't working and effects the voltage regulator?
