Default '09-'10 5.4 in a 2004

Hey all, just looking ahead to the longevity of my truck, 2004 lariat screw that I picked up for a good deal, 2nd owner with 194,000kms (120k mi) still runs great and everything else in/on the truck is mint. Just has the good ole phaser tick.

A friend of mine is a senior tech at ford and I had him take a good look at it and he said the oil starvation has gone too far and it's not really worth doing a timing job. He figured it would be more worth while to drive it until the motor goes and he will swap it out for another engine. I asked him if it would be just as easy to swap in a newer 5.4 but he wasn't sure as he hasn't heard of it being done locally.

I have searched and searched but can't seem to find any info on it, not in a rush just doing my research early. Thanks in advance!

Default phaser tick...

Nice to see someone at last from GWN. I had been reading some post about that phaser tick, its got to do with the oil. Read the thread below by Especial86...you may be in for a surprise as it disappears.

Yeah I'm already running 5-30 in the winter and 10-30 in the summer, I did 5-20 on the first oil change after I got the truck and the tick got so loud I couldn't stand it and changed backto the heavier weight oil within 3000kms lol

Yeah the newer 08-09-10 5.4 3v will fit for sure. These motors have the third revision Phasers.

The only mods needed would be to cut the COP pigtails as the 8L3E COP uses a different electrical plug. (None breaky 12mm plug)

Now if you pulled a 5.4 3v out of a 09+ SD you would need to swap a few parts.

I don't mean to steal the thread but I thought this applies. Does an 08 5.4L out of a E-150 fit the f-150s? Thanks.

Not sure about panel vans. But the 5.4 3v long block will fit. Modular baby.

I could start a new thread if no one here knows. Do they compare in power too? Its an 08 5.4 L with 88,000 miles for only $1000 or best offer. I have one 05 and one 06 f150. One needs phasers and the other is going on 200,000 miles ago I'm sure I could use the motor in one of them if it is all the same.
