Yeah if it overheats at idel that means the fan is not pulling in much air. So when you take off, air flows through the radiator thus cooling down the engine. But just take it in to the dealer let them deal with it

If you were nearby I would take that bet. If its the thermostat it would overheat all the time.

Naw, cheap ones, like Ford probably uses, will bind where the metals rub and sometime not pop out. The longer they sit without running when new the easier it is for this to happen. IF the fan clutch was bad it would always overheat if it's going to at all in those temps. I can't imagine a fan in 60 degree temps causing overheating. It's hard to know without seeing what it's doing firsthand. I will say that my fan does some weird stuff though, so it wouldn't surprise me at all if it was a clutch disengaging when it's not supposed to. Sometimes I hear my fan running when it's 20 degrees, but I normally never hear it at all, even at 100.

Looks like we got some bets! Make sure you update us with what the dealer finds. I sure hope you can make time to get it in soon. A thermostat replacment (thats what my money is on) will take a few hours, an engine overhaul will take a few days My dealer offers courtesy ride home or work, and pickup when its done, Im sure yours does too.

The key is he says it ONLY overheats at idle in traffic. The thermostat would overheat at idle, driving down the road, in reverse whatever. The fan is only needed at idle.

I cranked the baby up and popped my hood. The fan does not spin. Should it spin all the time???? I would think so, but maybe it has some sensor in it and it shiould only spin when needed.

I tested one on the lot just now in 67 degree weather. The fan spins when started. I would take it in, regarless of tax time. Maybe they will give a rental or a ride to work.

Yesterday when I got back from a 20 mile trip i popped the hood and it wasn't spinning. Later that day I started it up and it started spinning. But then stopped spinning about 15 seconds later. Drove home from the office and popped the hood and it was spinning, but not super fast.

Called the dealer about 5:30 yesterday and the appointment setter was alerady gone until Monday. I'll call them first thing Monday. I agree it needs to be serviced...but at this point I'm not super worrried i guess as I've been driving it this way since the day it rolled off the truck from the factory 2 months ago. Yet I didn't know it!

That would have been my guess, from your last description.
At least you got it fixed and the truck wasn't hurt.
