07 engine fire/winter project HELP
Hello,
I have been searching online as much as I can during breaks at work, after work, when I'm home and my girl friend is at work, and when she is still asleep. With her being mad at me all the time searching for some help, and with me wanting to get the truck back on the road I have decided to start a new thread. I started to do work on this project at the start of December. If you know of any threads similar to this please point me in that direction.
The truck is a 2007 F150 Lariat, 4x4, 5.4L, automatic, super crew, 5.5' bed with an E85 Flex fuel motor. It had an engine fire and as a result I will be swapping everything in the engine bay out from a donor truck. 53,000 kms (33,000 miles) on this truck.
The donor truck I bought is a 2006 F150 XLT, 2wd, 5.4L, automatic, super crew, 5.5' bed with a NON flex fuel engine. The transmission, drive shaft, rear axle was sold from the truck prior to me purchasing it. 58,000 kms (36,000 miles) on this truck.
My question is what parts can be used for this project and what parts will I have to purchase from an identical truck in order for it to work with the 2007 lariat truck?
I intend on swapping the motor, air filter/box/intake system, alternator, ABS pump, master cylinder, brake lines, fan, radiator, cooling system, coolant reservoir, power steering system and reservoir, transmission cooler, A/C system, complete engine bay wiring harnesses and I’m sure there is many other parts there that I forgot to list from the 2006 donor truck into the 2007 f150.
I will be using the existing transmission in the truck. Some questions I have is because the damaged motor is an E85 Flex fuel, will that cause problems with me dropping a non flex fuel motor into the truck. I don’t mind not running E85 and I don’t even think it is in my area. But will I have to swap fuel lines, any sensors, injectors or anything else you guys can think of.
The donor truck doesn’t have a battery or ECU so I will be buying a new battery upon completion of the project and I will be picking up an ECU from the local scrap yard. Does it matter what year/model the ECU comes from as long as it is a 2004-2008 F-150 or will I have to get one from a 2007 5.4L 4x4 automatic truck? And for that matter will I need one from a non-flex fuel truck?
Is the mileage stored in the dash/gauge cluster or will it be in something else like the ECU?
Also I read online that the PCM for E85 is different than a PCM for non E85 motors, can anyone confirm this? I do have the PCM for the donor truck but the PATS programming is within the PCM and I would prefer to keep the PATS intact with the truck as I have the key for the 2007 truck and don’t have a key for the donor truck.
Lastly the 2007 has fog lights but the donor truck doesn’t. I have about two feet of wiring from the fog lights them self but the donor truck doesn’t have the plugs on the wiring harness. Will the wires still be ran in the wiring harness itself and I just have to peel the wiring cover back a ways to expose the fog light wiring and then splice into it? Or are the fog light wires not even in the wiring because it came without fog lights in this trucks package and will I have to run complete new wiring for the fog lights?
Also any ideas for what to do with the burnt motor? It still turns by hand if I use a wrench.
Any help will be GREATLY appreciated and thank you for your time.
