Default 07 broken coil spring

Just bought a new 07 lariat. Went to get it inspected and it failed. Needs a lower left ball joint...and the coil spring on that side is broken as well. Guy said I should do both sides and that getting a quick strut will easiest. The truck has 183k miles and I'm not sure the last time, if ever, the struts/springs have been done. Should I just do that side, or do both? And should I try and do just the coil...or is it much easier just swapping out a new quick strut. Thanks guys.

If you want to stay close to oem ride, get a pair of Monroe quickstuts and do both sides.

Don’t do only one side as the old coil has compressed and you’ll have one side higher than the other.

With those miles, you’d need shocks anyway. The full unit will be cheaper and easier to do.

I agree with xl. Do the entire strut assembly. Compressing those springs is a PITA and can lead to serious injuries if not done properly.

I got the KYB set off Rock Auto. they're pretty nice, seem to be a bit more 'firm' than stock, at least compared to the NAPA junk the shop put on the back (without permission) when they did the fronts.

Looks like I can get a pair of Monroe for $130 each....but comparable ones by 'Detroit axle' and 'Oredy' are half the price. Anyone have any good/bad experiences with the latter companies? Am I better off spending double for the monroes? I don't drive much and pretty easy on the truck overall..no towing, off road etc. Plan to have truck for 20k-30k miles....

I wouldn’t bother with the off brand economy stuff. The Monroe or similar will be your best bet.

The Monroe quickstuts for 4wd models are $116 on rockauto. That’s a good price.

I wouldn’t even consider something half the price.
