Default 06 Brakes

Front brakes were grinding, inners on both sides were gone, outers were 1/8" thick and I believe were frozen in slides because I had to knock them out with a hammer. Replaced pads and rotors. Now after a test drive there was smoke coming off and the hot brake odor. With the thickness of the new ceramic pads and new rotors I had to completely compress the caliper ( which seemed more difficult than I remember on past brake jobs, and yes I had the reservoir cap off) and even then I had to tap the caliper on because it was so tight. Replaced the slide clips but reused the spring clips which span from inner to outer because kit didn't come with those. Also it was very difficult to get the pads slid into the clips, but once in they moved ok, also lightly greased the slides with brake grease and removed, cleaned and relubed caliper slide pins. Is this going to wear in or do I have an issue that needs addressed?

You need new calipers. The pistons are stuck and not returning when you release the pedal.

I'd also recommend changing the rubber hoses while you have it apart. Sometimes they have internal failures that cause them to act like check valves.

FWIW, mine smelled like that after I cam back from my first test drive after pad & rotor replacement. After that, everything was ok. It must have been oil/grease and rotor preservative burn off.

X2 here. I've also used just a mild soap and water when I don't have any brake clean.
