Question 05 FX4 Suspension Question

Hey Guys
So im looking to replace the original struts on my 05 FX4.
I'm new to this so my question may seem stupid.

Do all FX4's come with off-road package?
I ask as some of the struts fit W or W/O off-road package and others ask about HD Suspension...

Thanks

If I remember correctly the fx4 may of had shocks with different damping then standard.

That being said I have a 2006 FX4 and for cheaper than OEM you could just get a set of bilstein shocks which are way better than the stock setup. My 0.02.

i am using stock springs and bilstein 5100 shocks. Much better than the OEM setup.

±1 vote for bilsteins.
I think they have a couple options and if I recall correctly the silver 5100s if you want the ability to change the level in front. The yellow and blue 4600s if you don't care about that. I read they are valved the same, not sure if that's true or not.

if you are going to replace both coil spring and strut assembly, why not go with a coilover ?

You mean like a strut assembly, shock with spring loaded?

I've never understood why everyone refers to the OE coil-over shocks as struts.

From what I’ve seen those terms can be used interchangeably. Is there a difference?

I would consider it a strut because it is a structural part, even if that's only because the spring is mounted to it. In other words if you remove the strut there is nothing to hold the spring in place.
A coilover is similar, but when I think of a coilover I think with a threaded body so one can adjust the ride height. Our struts do not have a threaded body that can adjust right height without removing from the vehicle...

The problem is people became lazy and started referring to a Macpherson Strut as just "strut". People see a factory coil-over
and assume because it is all one unit that it's a Macpherson Strut which it is not.

This best illustrates the differences.
