Sometimes, and it happened to me, the harmonic balancer failed, and the inner hub would spin inside the belt pulley and not tour the accessories , of whidh 1 is the alternator

Should not be a small leak from diff case

Over time a small leak can drain your diff case destroying your rear end . I would check the level asap . Leak needs to be stopped ,serviced .
I had one turn to molten metal .
