You need an exhaust because of it's sound?

I personally like loud exhaust but like you said, some people don't. What about motorcycles, big diesel trucks like ups trucks and school buses, ricers with fart cans, etc. These are louder than most aftermarket truck exhaust systems so I'm not too worried about it. However straight piped is another story.
I've never considered if other people like my exhaust loud or not. True, i dont own the road, but neither do people who dont like it. Why should i not have what i want just cuz someone doesn't like it? As long as im not being a jerk about blowing smoke on em(occasionally will do it to a chevy tho if i know them). I personally love listening to others exhaust as long as its done well and not some punk kid that got enthusiastic with a hacksaw
It's also the fact that you are not the only one on your street or country for that matter. If everyone did as they pleased from all aspects you'd have a ****storm over your head. And their are specific by-laws that govern the amount of noise a vehicle is legally allowed to produce.

It more the issue of the vehicles with modified exhaust in residential areas, not rural farmland.

Why did I put loud exhaust on my truck?
1 my stock exhaust broke off
2 I wanted it
3 it was pretty cheap
4 I picked up 3 mpg with it
Do I need to go on?

Has no one considered, the OP hasn't said anything since the initial post other than stirring the pot here and having User-One arguing with everyone about why they modify their exhausts?

All of my trucks were loud as hell. And so will my next.

I have just a flow master original 40 on my truck with factory pipes just replaced the muffler, wish it was louder but my dad didn't want it too loud but he wanted to be able to hear my truck when I come in late at night and he did it so I couldn't sneak out!! And my dad has a flow master super 40 si/do with turndowns turned down on each side of the spare tire. He did his just because he wanted the rumble!!! Now my dad had a 2006 6.0 crew cab lariat f-250 with with true dual pmt diesel 5 inch straight pipes coming out at a 45 on each side!! That truck was a monster and you could hear him from at least 1/4 mile when he got on it and rolled coal... Yes my dad is having his mid life crisis at 45 lol

Just as often the modified exhaust on these trucks is no louder than a typical diesel crew truck firing up and idling every morning at 5 AM, or a lawnmower or a snow blower. What if I don't want to hear that ****? The noise pollution argument holds no water unless we start talking about straight pipes.
