As I recall, Qatar measures in kilometers. With your truck, normal driving should take you at least to 10k kilometers for an oil change.

As for other service, with a few exceptions, service intervals for your vehicle are basically on an "as needed basis". My FX4 is turning 23k miles and so far it's only been oil changes. Next time I may change the air cleaner. And perhaps I'll go wild and change wiper blades, too.

Perhaps your dealer isn't motivated by the extra money. With service intervals like these, he's just trying to keep his bored mechanics in shape with some practice.

So, even if my old head tells me to change oil in 5k (2012 XLT with 4500 miles on it), I MUST tell myself to wait wait wait till the computer tells me to? It's like teaching an old dog new tricks.

I run the truck hard as hell from new, do a couple of quick oil changes, then follow the manual.Same way I broke in every single motorcycle I have owned. With zero problems. The first one or two are the most important imo.

IMO they're taking you for a ride. Stealerships do nothing but nickel and dime you to death. Service writers get commission for selling you all of this "required" maintenance. Do as the owners manual says and you should be trouble free

I actually hope my dealer tries this with me, especially since I bought the ESP. Whatever maintenance is needed has already been paid for the next 70,000 miles.

Dieselhunter44, I also have an ESP and that is why I am waiting until the computer tells me to change the oil.

I am at 12k, and my computer still says 27% oil life remaining.

I would be interested to know if anyway has changed their oil early on an ESP.

They're just fishing. They probably catch a lot of suckers, and make a ton of extra money. Congrats on not being their fresh catch of the day. I stick with the manual, except for oil changes that I do every 5k.

I'm one of the old dogs that can't learn new tricks.
