Default Winter tires

I have a set of winter tires from my old 1998 f150 and was wondering if I could use on my new 2011 f150. My new truck has 18's and are 275. And my winter tires are 17's and 255. Can i just get a new set of 17 inch rims and put them on or will this cause a problem??

Narrower is usually better when it comes to winter tires, so the 255s will be good, and you'll probably want to keep the overall diameter similar to the current tires. Plug in your tire sizes into a tire size calculator, and the results will give you diameter and speedometer error. If it looks good, then just get a cheap set of 17" steel rims and you're set.
