Is there a certain brand to look for, one to avoid?
I wouldn't want to get some cheep stuff that would turn a different color in year.

Suntech is hands down the best. Won't fade to purple

Look for a ceramic film, not a dyed film for sure. Ceramics are often a little darker than advertised, but they also block a little more heat as well. I've got Johnson ceramic on mine and have always used them with no problems.

Thank you, yeah I love the Oxford White, just wish Ford made the driver side keyless keypad handle and tailgate handles in ptm Ox. White like they do the other handles, as Id go that route! Think it would really dress up my XLT vs the black/chrome ones... Or wish I had a painter friend here in MO!

That sucks. A lot of places that tint here in California even offer a one time replacement if you need to strip them for a fix it ticket.

I just got 50% on the fronts. Technically not legal in CA but it is enough different from the back that I should be OK. Got busted in last vehicle for 35%.

Went with the top-of-the-line 3M as the grey color matched the rear better than the other brands/levels.

started out with 18% to match the rears, and 35% over the windshield. just recently took the windshield tint off and did 5% over everything else.
