Default Why only 1 muffler?

My 2006 Mustang GT had 2 mufflers.

NoW i have a 2010 f150 with a 4.6 and it has 1 muffler. From reading this site most are getting dual exhaust with 1 muffler S/I D/O. Wouldnt the truck sound better with a true dual setup? I see there is enough room, would it decrease performance?

I think Ford optimized the exhaust system on 09+ F-150s. hp numbers and EPA ratings are a major role in selling trucks. you think Ford will skimp on those? Ford knows what they are doing. people change to aftermarket exhaust for the sound.

correct!

the majority of truck buyers buy them for their noise, they buy them because they are quiet. if you true dual and add the "x" pipe configuration prior to the mufflers, you will get an extra ummmph.

if you haven't noticed, the size of the stock muffler is comparable to a coffin. just buy swapping mufflers and minusing some weight, you gain fuel mileage and hp.

Yep...the flowmaster i had installed in place of the stock was half the size and a 3rd of the weight of the stock muffler.
