Where to mount the Garmin?
I have one of the newer Garmin GPS units and used the suction cup mount on the old truck dash. The new F150 doesn't have a smooth spot anywhere on the dash and I'm not a fan of using the window or the tray on the dash top. Both of these locations block your driving view. I would prefer something lower. Has anyone else mounted a GPS down on the dash and ....lf so.....what did you use and where??
I'm going to use the dash tray to utilize the 2nd usb port there, but otherwise there is not, you could sand down the bumps CAREFULLY over the left vent and use that for a left hand mount, that was going to by my original location, or get a KUDA mount, those are pretty cool...
You can get a Garmin friction bean bag mount at Amazon for around $23 or at Target for $39.Radio shack has simular mounts also. They do not attach but set in that little tray on the center of the dash. You truck would have to almost upset to knock it off.I ordered one for mine. When you stop for a break you can easily just set it in the back seat where no one can see it so no one will break a window to get it.Target also have them for Tom Tom's.
I have mine mounted next to the rear view mirror left side. The visor sometimes obstructs it. I don't keep it on so I don't need to keep the wire attached unless I need to recharge the internal battery.

I mounted mine in the center. I removed the rubber pad and placed it away for safe keeping. I mounted my gps with velcro, since mine didn't have a suction cup. I then bought a cheap rubber floor mat and cut it to fit around the GPS. looks pertty good.
i do not have a picture, but if you take your 12v plug out of the hole on the dash, and push it in the dash, you have room to plug in the garmin in the dash. use the best velcro you can find, then cover the 12v hole with the garmin, and you see a clean, no wires exposed, clean install. i've had mine this way for a year.
Great pictures guys. Keep them coming. I am trying to decide how and where to mount a GPS along with a couple or VHF/UHF radios as well. I have my eye on the upper tray but might buy a spare to chop up and modify and put the original away. I have done that with previous vehicles and it always worked out well to replace with original what I modified to suit my needs. If i use the upper tray it would be nice to route the wires inside the dash and get them out of site. I was also looking at the cubby hole where the trailer brakes control was not installed on my truck but foud out the slotted vents just to the left of that hole are for cabin temperature sensor so am thinking a warm radio near there would be a bad thing.
