Default What would you do: Wait or buy?

I've been lurking these forums for quite sometime, since I decided about 6 months ago I wanted a F150. I currently have a 2011 Ford Explorer, and while I do love it, I miss having a truck.

My quandary is: Should I wait for the new body style to come out or go ahead and take advantage of a great deal on a 2013?

When I bought my 2011 Explorer, it was just a few weeks after the body style was released. Sync has given me lots of issues among other things (spent 2 months in the shop having the power steering computer replaced!), which makes me hesitant to buy a new truck the first model year it is released. Given that, I'd be waiting until 2016 or 2017 model year.

I'm curious what you guys would do?

Given that the Explorer seems to fulfill your needs, I would wait for the new style.
The only significant fear I've seen expressed again and again is that the towing & hauling capabilities might be less than that of the current F-150.
It seems unlikely that this is a significant concern of yours.

i used to be the first one in line for the new model. A dozen or so cars later, I'd rather buy in the middle of a model run. So I'd buy now.

When the new body style comes 14/15 I would not touch one til 3rd year run. This is evident in the ecoboost it took for 2 years plus to "qoute" fix the intercooler issue. That said I would buy now and if your ready to sell it 5-6 years later you will be in the same swing of production as today. Remember look at the 13 model built in OCT 12 or later if you are considering a Ecoboost. Never by a first year production run IMO.

If I were buying now I would buy one of the Raptors. I was swooned by the window sticker that said 20 MPG... In real world driving for me it is 16.6 MPG. Another guy here at work has a new raptor and he gets about 14.2 with the same driving habits. If I had known that before I would have just got the Raptor.

I wouldnt wait on a new body style in 2015 if I wanted a truck now.

This is a good point. I'm usually a 4-6 year owner on vehicles. I usually try to get rid of a car right before 100K.

Get a good deal on the 13. Then when ford works out the bugs in a couple years, wait til end of model year and trade to take advantage of end of year rebates. My .02.
