Default What the hell is this "thing"??

Theres an interesting wire connected to a strange part fastened to the underside of the hood on my used 09 platinum 4x4. Supposedly there was once a built in radar detector system in the truck because there is also a cord coming out above the mirror that looks sort of like an ethernet cable. The dealer said that was part of the built in system. I followed the wire through the grommet and it went up under the dash and i didn't feel like taking the trim piece off under the steering wheel to follow it further. Anyway, i might take some better pics tomorrow if they're needed.

Thanks For Your Help

Hood pin switch maybe? I'm not really sure what those look like though.

Looks like it. Hood pops open, little elves come out from the dash and chop your hands off with a dull axe.

Just sayin

That is a mercury switch that is part of the remote start system. It prevents the remote start from working when the hood is up.

thats it. Mercury switch. Almost every system I see now uses a hood pin instead.

Tomorrow morning i will go try to start it with the hood up. The remote start system was added on by a dealer for the previous owner and they did a really terrible job. They wired a 12 volt wire (instead of a much lower voltage wire) to the head light switch with the remote start for some reason. So whenever you used the remote start it would fry the $300 headlight switch. I fried 2 before the dealer figured out what was wrong. So this old style switch could be part of that bad install job.

The switch comes in the package from Ford that the dealer installs. When we install them we just cut that wire off.
