As for the creamy sludge inside oil fill cap, normal to see a little if your truck is a grocery getter with lots of short trips. I live on the wet coast and see it on most F150 oil caps, not to panic unless the oil in the crankcase is creamy

Oil is fine. I've done all my oil changes in all my cars, Explorer, Acura and Bmw, and never saw anything like that. Was a bit worried.

Thanks for the info. So what causes that anyway?

Its condensation from the engine never getting hot for a long period of time.

I figured it had something to do with water/condensation. It was a bit disconcerting, since I've never seen that before.

I see that sludge build up in the coolant reservoir in 2009/2010 trucks with the 5.4 a lot for some reason. I've wondered the same thing.

If it is the oil cap, the first answer is correct.
Lol. I was confused too. Guess I was right

Actually, I've got the pudding in the oil cap and a gel like build up on the inner surface of the coolant reservoir.

As others stated, it's normal. Both my F150 and the wife's Tahoe get the sludge as well.

The first time I changed the oil on my wife's Tahoe after moving up North, almost a cup of water came out of the oil pan when I removed the plug. Needless to say, I was sick to my stomach thinking headgasket. After talking to a few locals, I learned it was normal in the negative temps with only short driving distances. Being born and raised in the Mojave Desert, it was new to me! My wife's job was 2 minutes from our house. Now she works further away so it has a chance to get to full temp and I haven't seen it again.

Its condensation getting trapped there. Color comes from it mixing with the oil. Its normal I see it on all sorts of engines.
