Can someone explain what this is ?
What exactly is "automatic" about it ?
Does is automatically switch between high and low range ?
Or does it automatically switch between 4x2 and 4x4 ?

Getting a 2012 Lariat and it has this, but I don't know really what it is.

Think it goes into 4WD and out automatically.

 

If it's anything like my current Chevy, it has 2wd, 4wd High, 4wd Low, and 'Auto', which switches between 2-high and 4-high automatically as needed. The 2-speed would be the High/Low options.
