Default What Engine Oil?

Waiting for my 2013 to come in and was wondering what oil Ford recommends, and what forum members use in their 6.2? Synthetic or regular dino?

Brand?

Pro's, con's?

I use Rotella synthetic in my Powerstroke. I think synthetic is a must for turbo's.

I've read in the past where you should break in a new engine with dino, drain and then use synthetic. Not sure if still applies with today's modern engines?

I used to use that in my old F350 PS. Of course, do not use Rotella in a non diesel engine

Unless your conditions are absurdly dusty, cold, hot, etc...use what the manual states.

Well, I am in Phoenix, and a bit hot here in the summer. I don't have a truck yet to read the manual.

Ahh yes, good ole PHX where it can be 100+ at 0900 Been there for work many times and I don't care what anyone says, an oven is dry heat as well!

I know this topic has been beaten to death for years but I don't see you shortening the life of the engine by running what Ford says to run: 5W20 Synth Blend which is what I will be running when Ford changes the oil soon.

When is the new truck due?

First of all, ford obviously reccomends motorcraft. I run mobil 1 full synthetic in my truck, WITH a motorcraft oil filter, the oil ford doesnt worry about too much as long as it meets ford specs but the filter yes. Ive learned this lesson the hard way, 25k miles on my truck, i wanted to be cool and use royal purple oil and a k&n oil filter, i blew my left cylinder head...... my warrannty covered it of course, but they told me to stay away from royal crap and to for sure use a fomoco oil filter.

Shell Rotella or any other diesel oil has an increased additive package compared to new dino oils. Especially the additive ZDDP (lead). Many vintage car owners will run Shell Rotella in their original gasoline engines to get the increased ZDDP to protect their solid lifter cams such as the C2 Corvettes.
